NIKKOR AF-S 58/1.4G
Mandatory visit to DigiExpo fair today. Got my hands on the coming new Nikkor 58mm lens and quickly tested it. This is interesting lens as its meant to deliver best possible image quality for the standard (50mm or so) focal length. Sharpness and contrast should be optimal aperture fully open and very pleasing looking bokeh coming from rounded 9-blade diaphragm.

Paolo Roversi exhibition
Spent long weekend in Stockholm and we had also time to visit the Photografiska museum and see the Paolo Roversi exhibition. Highly recommended if you are visiting Sweden before January 12

Predator
One of the awesome costumes from Ropecon xx event. This Predator costume was self made and full of details like fox skull in the belt. Really scary looking live too.

roundflash ring flash adapter
Tested friend's roundflash ring flash adapter. Folds to small size and has surprisingly big surface when assembled. Doesn't weight much. Light looks good based on taking few test photos. Sample photo after the link.
Zombie walk 2013
Some photos from Zombiewalk Helsinki 2013. Over 340 zombies walked through Helsinki. Again some really creative and shocking costumes.

Lightroom 5 Beta
Downloaded the Lightroom 5 beta version for laptop to test it out. New version comes with added useful features like smart previews, radial gradient (used in photo above), healing brush, automatic straightening tool etc. Smart preview can be really useful if you want to edit files with low capacity laptop HD and keep the space consuming RAW originals somewhere else until they are really needed. Whether the upgrade is really needed depends more of your camera purchases in future. If you want to work with RAW files of your brand new camera, better to keep on updating LR & PS.
You can download the beta and use it until the product expires on June 30, 2013 from here.

I often use the 24" (60x60cm) Ezybox softbox and now got this smaller (8.6") version.
busy
Been really busy with work, few time consuming bigger shoots and some teaching sessions. Had two lectures/workshops at Tampere about photography and lighting basics and one more coming in Espoo. And then quick visit to Tallinn to attend Joe McNally's workshop. More about that and other shoots later.

Kuva&Kamera 2013
Heikura's presentation cancelled (or so it looked when I got there in time), too much unfilled space in big hall to wander around. Some booths completely empty from people. Meh. Messukeskus is good place for arranging kuva&kamera fair but wishing more companies and more content to be there on next year.

Hurt my back (its already better now) in indoor football so did this shoot with just using lightweight speedlights (SB-80DX) and with the power of pain killers.

Last weekend we spent some time at studio to test different video lighting setups and slow motion recording. I have been thinking options for next video cam. Nikon D600 would be otherwise perfect for me but unfortunately the video recording with that camera is somewhat limited as you can't change aperture in video mode. Then the megapixel flagship D800, but more expensive to be just used for video. Choices, choices...

starting the year
Started the year with collaborative studio shoot. Dancer, old chair and other interesting props. Photos to be posted later. The awkward moment when you realize that low res faux-retro snapshot taken with phone is better than any of the actual shots taken with your big and expensive dSRL
