What's Your Story?

It was great to see the presentations from Bill Frakes & Joe McNally at Nikon What's Your Story? event. Day was filled with presentations about new Nikon D4 & D800 cameras, Photoshop 6 features etc. but I think lots of people were there to mainly see Bill & Joe. We not just value their work in the field of photography but also the way how they share their experience of making the photos via blog writings, books and speaking in the events.

Valaisija spring gathering 2012

Sergeant Pyry with WWI era clothes. From Valaisija spring meet up what we had about two weeks ago. Andrea provided arranging for studio & historical clothes while I helped to get the models & make-up artist there. Great gathering with photographers from different experience levels joining and all seemed to enjoy the day of taking photos.

Lightroom 4

Got the Lightroom 4 upgrade. I have edited first set of photos with it and changes in develop module takes some time to get used to. New 2012 develop module feels to be giving better end results than old fill light/recovery sliders that created noticeable halos in extreme values.

I have heard & read mixed comments about the performance. Some say LR 4 is faster, while others complains it to be slower than previous version. With small catalog and fast machine, where I first tested it, software was really fast & responsive to use. Interesting to see how it will handle my bigger catalog with 50k+ photos.

Too bad about the catalog import bug that loses some of the custom point curve values when moving LR 3 catalog to LR 4. I think I will be waiting 4.1 update before importing my main catalogs for LR 4.

Update 30.3.2012 :  LR 4.1 update is coming to fix the point curve bug. Yei!

Memory cards

About 100.000+ frames taken with three different dSLR cameras using memory cards from various manufacturers and I have had only twice problems with photos being corrupted or difficulties getting them out from card (knocking on wood). After the recent memory card problem, decided that I need new card or two. I am still using some CF cards that are 5+ years old and this new 32gb card has more storage capacity than all my previous compact flash cards combined. Time to put aside those 1-2gb cards now.

Cameras from Klassiset Kamerat 2012 event. Almost bought film medium format camera for 10€ but eventually only got some photography books.

Kuva&Kamera 2012

From Kuva&Kamera 2012 fair. First time at Messukeskus. More space to move compared to old venues but once again some of the biggest camera and lighting manufacturers not presented at all. Interesting presentations, good discounts and possibility to meet friends & colleagues.

Mobile World Congress 2012

Spent very busy but awesome days at Barcelona Mobile World Congress demoing Nokia 808 PureView, the next breakthrough in photography.
